Safer Community Connection for Tamahere

With the Expressway project, as well as increasing urban and business development in the area, the existing Expressway interchange has become much busier. Safe and efficient pedestrian and cyclist movements across the interchange (East/West and North/South) are crucial for maintaining a strong community. This is expected to become a greater issue with the completion of Te Awa Cycleway and the Sanderson Retirement Village development in the near future.

Tamahere comprises a growing population of over 6,000 residents, all of whom deserve safe access to community events, businesses, the primary school, early childhood centres & other facilities.

The Tamahere Community Committee has for years, sought and received assurances from NZTA that this issue would be addressed. However, NZTA have recently confirmed there are no plans, and no funding available for the construction of safe pedestrian and cycle crossings at this interchange.

This is simply not acceptable. Safe connectivity for our community is not negotiable. Please support my petition to the House of Representatives by signing below.

That NZTA provide safe pedestrian and cycle access across the SH1 interchange at Tamahere; preferably via an overpass or underpass from Tauwhare Rd to SH21 (Airport Rd), and from Tamahere Dr to Devine Rd.
